Free standing inserts (FSI) are marketing communication pieces inserted into print medium such as newspapers. The free standing inserts are not bound to the medium, but are loosely placed inside, hence the name, free standing.
Examples and types of free standing inserts:
Free standing inserts are primarily found in newspapers, with the most common type of insert being manufacturer or store coupons. Additional types of inserts may include:
- New product announcements with or without a coupon
- Store advertisements and sales
- Entertainment announcements, such as new movie releases or television shows
- Mini-magazines, such as the LA magazine, inserted into the Los Angeles Times newspaper
