Category killer refers to a large specialty store, offline or online, that carries a large selection of products in its category.
Example of category killer:
An example of a category killer store would be Home Depot home improvement stores. The big box store carries a huge line of its products in the home building and home improvement category that small stores in the community could not compete and end up going out of business or moving locations to other communities.
An example of an online category killer is amazon.com. Amazon, originally an online book seller, later added items from other categories at a price less than most local retail stores could offer. Both books and consumer items are sold at a discount price, closing local book stores and smaller retail outlets within some communities.
